Sunday in the Park....
Sunday in the park—Tompkins Square Park, that is—working with Empire State Indivisible gathering signatures for petitions in favor of continuing rent control in New York City, standing strong on New York’s Green New Deal and reforming campaign finance laws.
But what makes this location particularly meaningful to me is that St. Brigid’s Catholic Church is here. It’s the church in which my great-great-great grandparents got married in 1853, refugees themselves, just off the boat from a starving Ireland.
When I stop in for a look, the prayers are in Spanish.
ut the sign in the church garden is a welcome, reminding me that the challenges we face today, at our borders and in our government, are part of the pendulum of history, and that our trajectory is up.
